Applying a Living Lab Approach to Smart Grid Training Course Design

Abstract: Humanity is facing environmental issues that require the whole way in which we produce, distribute, and consume energy to be challenged. One technical solution that is widely considered is the smart grid, meaning a decentralized and multi-scale smart energy system. For more than a decade, various pilot projects have been implemented successfully all over the European Union. If such pilots are to be scaled up into effective roll-outs, the electrical engineering workforce needs to be prepared, as do the public a… Show more

“…However, sections of the public not active in the processes are stakeholders if they are affected in the process (Johnson et al, 2015). Working with stakeholders in the Living Lab improves acceptability, transparency, understanding, and adaptability to the processes and innovations within the Living Lab (Breukers and Wolsink 2007;Reed, 2008;Johnson et al, 2015;Mastelic et al, 2017;Gabriel et al, 2020). In so doing, trust is built that eases adoption and maintenance of resultant innovations.…”

“…Another alternative would be to totally change the modality of the implementation of this module. Initiative outside the constraints of educational institutions may allow citizen centric approach as living lab that has already been implemented to the energy topic such as [33,34].…”
