Massive open online courses (MOOCs) have considered to be a potential to disseminate engineering education at scale. However, the pedagogical requirement demanded engineering student to equip with specific skillsets such as communication, interactivity, and collaboration. Yet, MOOCs are skeptical of facilitating those skills. Generally, MOOCs evaluated against accessibility and usability. These evaluations may not perceive whether the platform designs in MOOCs support to much-needed interactions and collaboration required in engineering education. We evaluated 6 MOOC platform designs under the lens of collaboration and types of interactions which occur as learner to learner, learner to instructor, learner to platform and learner to content. Evaluation criteria were derived us-ing previous frameworks and evaluations were conducted using 10 participants. Based on each criterion a matrix was formed with a weight to compare results. We found overall collaboration opportunities in platforms are significantly less than the opportunities to interact. Based on the findings we provide 5 design recommendations and provide a future direction for MOOC platform designs which en-ables facilitation to engineering education through MOOCs.

Modernisation in higher education is one of the major objectives to meet the universal challenges and provide higher knowledge-based and sustainable development levels. It is decisive to encourage the quality of teaching and innovative pedagogy. Technological advancement has led to the development of many efficient methods for innovative pedagogies in the field of education. Engineering education is built on a new-fangled standard in which engineering is to be practiced with technical expertise as well as social responsibility. The teaching fraternity has incorporated a lot of teaching strategies for changing teacher-centric education to learner-centric education. This paper aims to present the aspects of the teaching–learning process, teaching pedagogy and curricular approaches of engineering pedagogy and study the teaching strategies followed by engineering teachers. To study the different teaching strategies followed by teachers in engineering education, an online survey on teaching strategies was conducted for the engineering teaching fraternity all over India. The survey depicts that there is a change in the teaching and learning process from teacher-centric education to learner-centric education. Almost 80%–90% of the teachers follow student-centric teaching by using different tools and strategies, which in turn results in outcome-based education. Learning is more interesting and helps foster a sense of enthusiasm for learning is the role of multimedia. This study aims to design multimedia learning on the subject of Computer Networks and Data Communication for informatics education students. This type of research uses a development research approach, this research will only focus on stage I, namely designing multimedia learning. Designing multimedia learning in computer networking and data communications subject using Lectora Inspire Software. Furthermore, validation is carried out based on expert trials, on aspects of software engineering, aspects of application design, aspects of visual communication. The results of designing multimedia learning in the subject of Computer Networks and Data Communication for informatics education students are valid, feasible, easy to use, and very friendly. So that with this multimedia learning design greatly contributes to learning in informatics education.
