Distance learning is a learning process that allows students and instructors are in different physical locations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, various countries including Indonesia chose the distance learning option to avoid the spread of the pandemic. However, the implementation of distance learning is not without problems. In Indonesia, the problems to implement distance learning are enormous both in terms of equitable distribution of infrastructure and costs for accessing the internet. To overcome these problems, research about best distance learning tools and its implementation strategy is really needed. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the strategies and tools for implementing distance learning that reliable and cost-effective for the student at the same time. Based on research that has been conducted by analyzing questionnaire surveys of 256 students in Indonesia, this research recommends tools combination strategy consists of Google Classroom tool as a learning app, Whatsapp group as broadcast messaging and Zoom as a video conference media for distance learning. This research also recommended to maximize the elearning/learning app features for theoretical lessons and consider video conference just in practical lessons so that the distance learning costs become cheaper for students.

This article presents an ongoing research project regarding blended education; Flexible Digital Classroom (FlexiDig), and a survey on full-time and part-time students’ experiences with blended education in a master’s degree programme in Art and Design Education. To optimise educational resources, the lectures for the full-time students were recorded, including the dialogue between the students and the lecturers, and made digitally available for all students. Generally, both the part- and full-time students participating in the questionnaire expressed their experience as “satisfactory” for the availability of the recorded lectures. Moreover, the capture of dialogues in the recording was found to be extremely useful for better understanding and learning, according to the students. This idea forms a basis to develop FlexiDig as simple as possible with a transfer value to other educational situations based on the approach of Student-Centered Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (SCLT).

In recent years, distance learning has become an increasingly popular mode of education due to its flexibility and accessibility. However, the quality of distance learning programs has been a cause for concern, which has led to the development of various approaches and tools for quality assurance and assessment. This review article aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the current state of play of quality assurance in distance learning. The paper discusses the fundamental requirements to establish quality in distance learning and the challenges associated with ensuring quality in this mode of education. Then it explores the different approaches and tools used for quality assurance and assessment, such as course evaluations, self-assessments, and external reviews. In addition, the paper delves into the development of regulatory documents and manuals for quality assurance, which are essential for ensuring that distance learning programs adhere to established standards. It also discusses in detail the importance of audits and accreditations from assessment organizations in assuring quality in distance learning. As the satisfaction of all stakeholders (including students, faculty, and administrators) is crucial for ensuring the success of distance learning programmes, the paper highlights the various measures HEIs can take to ensure stakeholder satisfaction. Finally, the article discusses the processing of statistical data and performance indicators, which can provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of distance learning programmes.
