Approbation of a method for studying the reflection of emotional state in children's speech and pilot psychophysiological experimental data

Abstract: The goal of the study is cross-linguistic research of 8-12 year old children's emotional speech classification by experts and automatically using the material of the Russian and Tamil languages. In the proposed project, this objective will be solved by a complex analysis of the emotional speech of informants with typical development in the age range of 8-12 years, using four emotional states "sadness, joy, anger and neutral", to analyze what is relevant and new in connection with the lack of analogous data. “…Spontaneous speech—The dialogue between the child and the experimenter was used to obtain the child’s spontaneous speech. We assumed that the semantically different questions could provoke different emotional states in the children [ 26 ]. The standard set of experimenter’s questions addressed to the child was used.…”

“…In the last ten to twenty years, improving speech emotion recognition has been seen as a key factor in improving the performance of HCI systems. While most research has focused on emotion recognition in adult speech [1,2], significantly less research has focused on emotion recognition in children's speech [3,4]. That is because large corpora of children's speech, especially audio-visual speech, are still not publicly available, and this forces researchers to focus on emotion recognition in adult speech.…”

“…The development of SER systems has been a hot topic of research in the field of human-computer interaction for the past two decades. Most of these studies are focused on emotion recognition from adult speech [2][3][4][5], and only a few are from children's speech [6][7][8][9]. This follows from the fact that sizable datasets of children's speech with annotated emotion labels are still not publicly available in the research community, which leads most researchers to focus on SER for adults.…”
