Approximate classification of mining tremors harmfulness based on free-field and building foundation vibrations

Abstract: The paper compares the results of an approximate evaluation of mining tremors harmfulness performed on the basis of free-field and simultaneously measured building foundation vibrations. The focus is on the office building located in the Upper Silesian Basin (USB). The empirical Mining Intensity Scale GSI-GZW KW -2012 has been applied to classify the harmfulness of the rockbursts. This scale is based on the measurements of free-field vibrations but, for research purposes, it was also used in the cases of build… Show more

“…Kuźniar, et.al [11], presented the different types of pre-processing that include the use of Back Propagation Neural Networks (BPNNs) for the computation of the natural frequencies of the modified structures necessary in building the design in seismic areas. The study-proven the accuracy of neural networks with various input data pre-processing routines was estimated by mean square error (MSE) and relative errors (ep):…”

“…Vibrations caused by mining rockbursts with energy ( ) from the range of 1.0•10 5 -4.0•10 9 •J and the vibrations with peak ground acceleration of horizontal components larger than 5 cm/s 2 were taken into account in the analysis. Full-scale measurements are described in detail in [14].…”

“…Impact assessment of surface mining-related vibrations is made using the maximum value of the resultant of ground velocity -(velocity version of the scale) and the maximum value of the resultant ground acceleration calculated using the filtered components of the horizontal vibration in the band to 10Hz ( ) in auxiliary version of the scale. The second parameter used in impact assessment is duration of the intensive phase of vibrations and for the velocity and acceleration, respectively [11,13,14]. Two versions of GSI-GZW KW -2012 scale (No.…”
