Approximate closed-form solutions of realistic true proportional navigation guidance using the Adomian decomposition method

Abstract: Approximate closed-form solutions of the non-linear relative equations of motion of an interceptor pursuing a target under the realistic true proportional navigation (RTPN) guidance law are derived using the Adomian decomposition method in this article. In the literature, no study has been reported on derivation of explicit time-series solutions in closed form of the nonlinear dynamic engagement equations under the RTPN guidance. The Adomian method provides an analytical approximation, requiring no linearizati… Show more

“…PNG has been widely used in terminal guidance laws and there are several variations of it. When the acceleration command is applied perpendicular to the missile-to-target line of sight, it is called true proportional navigation guidance (TPNG) (Garai et al, 2009). When the acceleration command is applied perpendicular to the pursuer velocity vector, it is called pure proportional navigation guidance (PPNG) (Wang and Xie, 1999).…”

“…Certain existing guidance laws have not considered the dynamics of missile autopilot or just have thought it as first-order dynamics. “…Zhou et al 2 designed an adaptive sliding-mode guidance for a homing missile. Garai et al 3 derived approximate closed-form solutions of realistic true proportional navigation guidance law using the Adomian decomposition method which considered first-order dynamics of missile autopilot. Zhou et al 4 proposed a multiple model adaptive two-step filter and motion tracking sliding-mode guidance for missiles with time lag in acceleration.…”
