Approximating carbon fixation - how important is the Calvin-Benson cycle steady-state assumption?

Abstract: Plants use light energy to produce ATP and redox equivalents for metabolism. Since during the course of a day plants are exposed to constantly fluctuating light, the supply of ATP and redox equivalents is also fluctuating. Further, if the metabolism cannot use all of the supplied energy, the excess absorbed energy can damage the plant in the form of reactive oxygen species.
