Aquatic oligochaetes (Annelida: Clitellata) of the Czech Republic: check-list, new records, and ecological remarks

Abstract: This study contributes to the knowledge of central European clitellates by creating a check-list of Oligochaeta (sensu oligochaetous Clitellata; Erséus 2005) of the Czech Republic, exclusive of taxa in the family Enchytraeidae. In total, 95 aquatic oligochaete species representing 43 genera are reported for the Czech Republic. Rare species are highlighted and associated with the categories for threatened species as outlined by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. The first records of Trichod… Show more

“…The diversity of the Oligochaeta fauna in Serbia is in accordance with research in European countries: the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany [7], Poland [8], the Czech Republic [9], and Estonia [6], as well as in the region: Slovenia [10], Bulgaria [11], Croatia [12], Montenegro [13], and Albania [14]. Generally, in these countries the number of species is around 100-150, depending on the amount of examined material, habitat types, and detailed determination.…”

“…It was also found in running waters and tidal freshwater marsh in the eastern part of North America (Milligan 1986). Some data concerning the occurrence of H. speciosus, for example in Czech Republic (Schenkova et al 2010) deal with H. zavreli (according to an earlier paper by Hrabĕ (1981)). Furthermore, up to now, specimens identified as H. zavreli have been found only in subterranean waters, either in Slovakia (Hrabě 1942;Šporka 2003), Italy (Dumnicka 1990) or in the Dinaric region (Giani et al 2011;Martinez-Ansemil et al 2016), which suggests that it is a stygobiotic species.…”

“…The state of knowledge about stygobitic oligochaetes was first summarized by Juget and Dumnicka (1986) and recently by Des Châtelliers et al (2009). Moreover information that accumulated in the last years and some data not considered by Des Châtelliers et al (2009) was taken into account in the present study: for Austria -paper by Danielopol and Pospisil (2001), for Czech Republik -by Hrabě (1981) and Schenkova et al (2010), for Germany -by Stein et al (2012), for Slovakia -by Šporka (1992) and Bitušik et al (2010), for Poland -by Dumnicka (1998Dumnicka ( , 2000Dumnicka ( , 2005Dumnicka ( , 2009a and Dumnicka and Koszałka (2005).…”
