Aqueous phase reforming of ethylene glycol on Pt/CeO2–ZrO2: effects of cerium to zirconium molar ratio

Abstract: The aqueous-phase reforming (APR) reaction of ethylene glycol was investigated on platinum-supported CeO 2 -ZrO 2 mixed oxides with different molar ratios of Ce/(Ce + Zr). The main role of the molar ratio of Ce/(Ce + Zr) on the CeO 2 -ZrO 2 mixed oxides was found to be to alter the dispersion of active platinum crystallites and concomitantly change the hydrogen productivity and stability. The different amounts of surface oxygen species on the defect sites of CeO 2 -ZrO 2 altered the dispersion of platinum crys… Show more

“…In contrast, ZrO2 and CeO2 were characterized by larger crystallite sizes. Smaller crystallites of mixed oxides of Ce and Zr can be attributed to the incorporation of the small-size zirconium species into the matrix of CeO2 as has been previously described by Jeon et al [40]. Smaller crystallites in case of 10La-Zr comparing to pure ZrO2 can be explained correspondingly.…”

“…Pt supported on boehmite showed improved H 2 production rate . When mixed oxide supports were used, the results were interesting: for example, H 2 productivity and stability of Pt/CeO 2 ‐ZrO 2 were dependent on the Ce and Zr content . Adding Cr to the oxide support of Fe resulted in improved Pt dispersion and catalyst performance .…”
