Many people do not understand about Carakan Madura because it is rarely used in daily life. There are many ways to keep Carakan Madura sustainable and not extinct, include the education, it means of Carakan Madura which is included in the local content education curriculum of Madura language so that students can learn about Carakan Madura properly and well so that students are not only knowing, but also understanding. For this reason, tools are needed so that students more understand the Carakan Madura. The purpose of this research is to segment the handwritten image of Carakan Madura using projection methods and connected component labeling. The projection method is used to limit the characters in a word. Meanwhile, the connected component labeling method is used to connect the characters that are close to each other because in Madura Carakan one object consist of several characters whose positions are sometimes above, below or beside of based character. In its development, this research can be used as a reference for character recognition. The results of this research can be concluded that the segmentation process carried out in Carakan Madura handwriting has been successfully carried out in the form of the composing characters of Carakan Madura with a segmentation suitability percentage of 79%. One effect of this percentage is caused by different writing distances. So a good way of writing is very influential in this segmentation.
