“…The composition of species found at Rotterdam Zoo shows overlap with other surveys of arachnid fauna in greenhouses (Snazell & Smithers 2007, Kielhorn 2008, Pfliegler 2014, Šestáková et al 2017, Hula & Pešan 2018. In most studies, the dominant species is either Parasteatoda tepidariorum or Pholcus phalangioides, while Uloborus plumipes is the most ubiquitous species at Rotterdam Zoo.…”

“…The current arachnid survey marks the first time that specimens of T. stenaspis were collected from the Netherlands. This oonopid spider of African origin was to be expected, as it was collected from several other greenhouses in Europe (Korenko et al 2007, Pfliegler 2014, Rozwałka et al 2016, Šestáková et al 2017, Rembold et al 2020, Lissner & Scharff 2021. Furthermore, T. stenaspis was recently recorded at a tropical butterfly house (in Whipsnade Zoo, England) in which the trees and shrubs all originate from the Netherlands (Telfer 2020).…”

“…Its introduction to the greenhouses of the Munich Botanical Garden can be reconstructed to a certain extent. So far, E. florenciae is known from three other greenhouses in Paris, Bratislava and Košice (Condé 1981, Christian & Christophoryová 2013, Šestáková 2017. Like other institutions, the Munich Botanical Garden has a lively exchange of plants -including the soil as habitat for the palpigrades -with other botanical gardens.…”

“…We collected data on the time and location of M. trilobatus records in Europe by personally contacting arachnologists in 26 European countries (see Acknowledgments) and from databases and published records (Arachnologische Gesellschaft, 2021;Blick, 2000;Breuss, 1999;Čandek et al, 2013;Dolanský et al, 2009;Dumpert & Platen, 1985;Feng et al, 2021;GBIF.org, 2021;Grbić et al, 2021;Harvey, 2008;Hänggi, 1990;Hepner et al, 2011;Hirna, 2017;Infofauna, 2021;Keer et al, 2006;Kovács et al, 2015;Lemke, 2018;Mezőfi & Markó, 2018;Nentwig et al, 2021;OpenObs, 2021;Pantini & Isaia, 2019;Rozwałka et al, 2013Rozwałka et al, , 2016Spider Recording Scheme/British Arachnological Society, 2021;Szinetár et al, 2014;Šestáková et al, 2017;Thaler & Knoflach, 1995;Trigos-Peral et al, 2020;Van Helsdingen, 2021;Van Helsdingen & IJland, 2007;Waarneming.nl, 2021;Wiśniewski, 2017).
