Architecture analysis of enterprise systems modifiability: a metamodel for software change cost estimation

Abstract: Enterprise architecture models can be used in order to increase the general understanding of enterprise systems and specifically to perform various kinds of analysis. The present paper proposes a metamodel for enterprise systems modifiability analysis, i.e. assessing the cost of making changes to enterprise-wide systems. The enterprise architecture metamodel is formalized using probabilistic relational models, which enables the combination of regular entity-relationship modeling aspects with means to perform e… Show more

“…Enterprise architecture management needs to consider the impact that changes to an element have to the architecture as a whole. Enterprise architecture metamodels are often used to run different simulations and analyses [22], [23], which requires granular and up-to-date information [24]. Up to date information is critical for the success of enterprise transformation projects [8].…”

“…The data in the hybrid database are stored in collections as vertices and edges and can be traversed as a graph 22 . ArangoDB has a built in simple graph visualization interface, which can be used for quick quality control of the stored data and discovering patterns in the data.…”

“…However, considerable diversity exists, in terms of the primary unit of analysis and terminology adopted by each. For instance, various frameworks focus on i) Stakeholders and Aspects to be considered [34]; ii) Viewpoints and Concerns to be analyzed [1]; and iii) Objects and Attributes to be modeled [35]. This lack of consistency is likely one reason for the limited success reported for EA efforts in studies of practice [36].…”
