announces that it will welcome North America's largest collection of iconography of and original writings by Simon Bolivar. These are the most important Bolivar manuscripts outside Venezuela and. Colombia. The new materials consist of over forty items, including books, manuscripts, paintings, and engravings. They come as a result of the generosity of Maury A. Bromsen of Boston. The John Carter Brown Library will make available a room for the collection in a central location. More than a decade ago, the Boston Public Library exhibited the collection, and some of it appeared at Brown in 1995. Mr. Bromsen has established an endowment for Latin American studies and will underwrite the hiring of a new curator of Latin American collections. His gift will provide funds for acquisitions, publications, research, and lectures. A bibliographer, book dealer, and collector, Bromsen has been active in the acquisition of materials of colonial Latin America for over fifty years. Bromsen will hold the first curatorship established by his gift.
