Abstract: Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae is associated with severe community-acquired infections. Hypervirulent K. pneumoniae colonies typically exhibit a mucoid phenotype. K. pneumoniae mucoidy is influenced by a complex combination of environmental factors and genetic mechanisms.
