Arisanschinins A–E, Lignans fromSchisandra arisanensisHay.

Abstract: Four new oxygenated dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans, arisanschinins A-D ( 1- 4), and a new 1,4-bis(phenyl)-2,3-dimethylbutane lignan, arisanschinin E ( 5), together with 15 known compounds, were isolated from the EtOAc-soluble fraction of the aerial parts of SCHISANDRA ARISANENSIS Hay. The structures of 1- 5 were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses, including 2D NMR (HMQC, HMBC, and NOESY) experiments. The configurations of the biphenyl and octadiene moieties were deduced from circular di… Show more

“…On the contrary, it is expected that the two chromophores interact with each other according to the exciton-coupled CD mechanism [28], which may in principle generate strong CD signals [29]. In practice, it cannot be taken for granted that the helicity rule may be applied to benzoatecontaining lignans such as 1, as it is commonly done [3,14,24,30,31]. In fact, if we compare the CD spectrum of 1 (Fig.…”

“…The lignans from this family are commonly classified into five classes, i.e., dibenzocyclooctadiene, spirobenzofuranoid dibenzocyclooctadiene, 1,4-diarylbutane, 4-aryltetralin, and diaryltetrahydrofuran [1]. Recent pharmacological studies have revealed that these compounds accounted for anti-oxidant [2,3], anti-HIV [4,5], antihepatitis B virus [6], and anti-proliferative multiple bio-effects [7]. In addition, schisantherin A (2) has been reported to exhibit anti-inflammatory properties by down-regulating NF-kappaB and MAPK signaling pathways in lipopolysaccharide-treated RAW 264.7 cells [8].…”

“…Compound 4 (xuetonlignan B) possesses the molecular formula C 34 H 36 O 11 through analysis of the HRESIMS ( m/z 638.2596 [M + NH 4 ] + ). The UV, NMR, and ECD data of 4 indicated the presence of an S -biphenyl–configured dibenzocyclooctadiene lignan with almost identical data and the same planar structure to arisanschinin C ( Liu et al, 2010 ). The only difference between them was in the configurations of C-7 and C-8.…”

“…35 While, arisanschinin A has been proved to be one of the key bioactive compounds in Schisandra arisanensis. 36 In CC, the bioactive compound berberine has been found to increase insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in 3T3-L1 adipose tissues, improve insulin resistance, 37 and enhance glucose-stimulated insulin secretion and proliferation in Min6 cells. 38 Hao et al found that berberine can improve diabetic microvascular injury and inhibit the formation of AGEs, suggesting the potential clinical use of berberine for the treatment of diabetes and its vascular complications.…”
