Array of stacked leaky-wave antennas in groove gap waveguide technology

Abstract: The design of an array of stacked leaky-wave antennas in groove gap waveguide technology is presented in this work. The proposed array is formed by simply stacking a number of leaky-wave antennas one on top of the other and feeding all of them with uniform amplitude and phase. The inter-element distance is studied in order to avoid grating lobes and to maximize the directivity. A feeding network based on vertical coupling is designed, where the input port feeds the bottom element, and then the energy is equall… Show more

“…The comparison between this work with other arrays in similar frequency bands based on the use of layer slotted waveguides is presented in Table 1. This includes gap waveguide [67], groove gap waveguide [68,69], slotted waveguide in groove gap waveguide (GGWG) implemented with glide symmetric holes [70], in conventional rectangular waveguide (RWG) [71] and in SIW [72].…”

“…On the other hand, the modularity in passive antenna arrays has been hardly explored. In [22], a vertical stacking of leaky-wave antennas has been presented to enhance the directivity in the E-plane. Nevertheless, the leakage of each antenna has to be adjusted to obtain a uniform feeding along the array which hampers modularity.…”
