Arrays of ordered Pb nanowires with different diameters in different areas embedded in one piece of anodic alumina membrane

Abstract: Nanochannel arrays with constant nanochannel density but varying nanochannel diameters in different areas in one piece of anodic alumina membrane are achieved. Using this type of membrane as a template, ordered Pb nanowire arrays with constant nanowire density but diameters decreasing radially were obtained by electrodeposition. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images taken from different areas of the Pb nanowire arrays show that we can control the growth of aligned Pb na… Show more

“…16 Also for template deposition, an excess of chelating agent ͑H 3 BO 3 ͒ in the bath improved pore filling, but it was impossible to rapidly fill all channels with NWs of uniform length. In previous works, [17][18][19] lead NWs were grown in conditions analogous to ours even if a comparison with our findings is rather difficult because those papers do not show section views of the deposit; therefore, it is impossible to compare pore filling and NW length uniformity.…”

“…Compared with the long times of electrodeposition reported in Ref. [17][18][19], this procedure appears much faster. However, a certain damage of the membrane was unavoidable when reduction was performed in a sulfuric acid solution.…”

“…Unlike track-etch membranes, the pores in the AAO membrane are almost parallel to the surface normal. Typical membrane thickness is up to 100 μm but more limited in pore sizes compared to PCTE (Foss et al, 1992, 1994; Pang et al, 2002, 2003a,b,c; Tian et al, 2004). …”

“…Compared with common organic membrane, inorganic membrane exhibits much better resistance to strong acid/alkaline and high temperature [8], resulting in an increasing interest on the synthesis and application of various inorganic oxide membranes, such as titania [9,10], alumina [11][12][13][14], silica [15,16], zirconia [17][18][19]. Porous anodic alumina membrane has been widely used in catalysis [20], separation technology [21], optoelectronics [22]. Various types of alumina film can be synthesized through chemical vapor deposition, anodic oxidation, solid particles sintering, phase transfer/sintering [23] and template method [12][13][14].…”
