Arsenic in Pteris vittata is localized to the cell wall in a water-soluble state

Abstract: Pteris vittata L., a hyperaccumulator of As, has great potential in environmental remediation. Localization analysis of As and Ca, K, S, and P in arsenic-exposed and unexposed P. vittata pinnae was performed using an electron probe micro analyzer. A comparison of section preparation methods revealed that the As in P. vittata is water-soluble and not tightly bound to the tissue.
