ArtDeco: a beam-deconvolution code for absolute cosmic microwave background measurements

Abstract: We present a method for beam-deconvolving cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy measurements. The code takes as input the time-ordered data along with the corresponding detector pointings and known beam shapes, and produces as output the harmonic a T lm , a Elm , and a Blm coefficients of the observed sky. From these one can derive temperature and Q and U polarisation maps. The method is applicable to absolute CMB measurements with wide sky coverage, and is independent of the scanning strategy. We teste… Show more

“…where σ max and σ min correspond to the widths of the best-fit Gaussian envelope to the semi-major and semi-minor axis of the co-polarized far field beam response. Beam asymmetries generate spurious polarization signals which can mimic an actual sky signal and bias science results [48][49][50][51][52].…”

“…In this work we perform beam deconvolution on LFI data. We use the artDeco deconvolution code (Keihänen & Reinecke 2012) to correct for the asymmetric smearing produced by the detectors' beams. We take as our starting point the calibrated and destriped timelines for LFI detectors, now publicly available through the Planck Legacy Archive (PLA) 1 .…”

“…We constructed the harmonic NCVM matrix for multipoles up to max = 50. Beam elements with high k only affect the high multipoles (Keihänen & Reinecke 2012). We chose k max = 2 for this low-multipole computation.…”
