“…The patient was treated by urgent surgical debridement and irrigation followed by antibiotics to control the infection; however, she remained in considerable pain and difficulties in daily living activities. Her latest postoperative radiographs showed narrowing of the joint space suggestive of chondrolysis similar to previous reports on septic coxarthrosis [5]. …”

“…Septic arthritis of the hip can be treated successfully with an early arthroscopic intervention. The literature is consistent and provides excellent outcomes for this procedure, but it is limited to one Level II randomized controlled trial and several small Level IV case series [1, 4, 5]. The patient was treated by urgent surgical debridement and irrigation followed by antibiotics to control the infection; however, she remained in considerable pain and difficulties in daily living activities.…”

“…However, native joint infection of the adult hip, except for prosthetic joint infection, is rare in European countries [15,16]. It is very rare also in Japan, as only several cases have been reported [17,18]. Although SA has occurred sporadically recently, the reason for this is uncertain.…”

“…Aerobic and anaerobic bacterial, fungal, and mycobacterial cultures and synovial biopsy were obtained through a metal cannula prior to initiating fluid ingress via an arthroscopic pump. After irrigation with 12 L of normal saline and debridement with a shaver, the arthroscopic appearance of the central compartment was improved, with no attempt made to treat the femoroacetabular impingement and secondary chondrolabral damage other than a brief chondroplasty of a delaminating rim chondral lesion (Figures 4,5). A small penrose drain exited the modified midanterior portal.…”

“…Open arthrotomy has been successfully used for the management of hip sepsis. However, Yamamoto et al 5 reported that it is difficult to achieve thorough synovectomy with mini-incision arthrotomy in adult patients, and dislocation of the femoral head may be required, risking complications such as aseptic necrosis of the femoral head, postoperative dislocation, and a prolonged recovery period. Although open surgical dislocation of the hip using a trochanteric osteotomy appears to be a safe procedure without reported avascular necrosis, the authors would be concerned about the exposure of trochanteric cancellous surfaces in the setting of infection.…”
