Arthroscopically Assisted Ligamentoplasty for Axial and Dorsal Reconstruction of the Scapholunate Ligament

Abstract: Scapholunate (SL) ligament injury is among the most common injuries of the intrinsic ligaments of the carpus. Arthroscopic treatment in complete and nonacute injuries has had poor results. These cases have typically been treated using open surgical techniques that require a broad dorsal approach and produce soft tissue impairment, which leads to reduced wrist mobility. The development of wrist arthroscopy techniques has allowed the treatment of complete and nonacute injuries of the SL ligament, without the dis… Show more

“…In both cases, arthroscopy-assisted ligamentoplasty was performed for axial and dorsal reconstruction of the SLL, described by Carratalá et al in 2016. 23 No other complications were reported in the rest of the cases.…”

“…The remainder of the tendon is sutured to the volar surface of the scaphoid. Corella et al have also described an arthroscopic approach to reconstruct both the volar and dorsal SLLs with a minimally invasive technique 80,81. A clinical cohort study performed by Ho et al on an arthroscopic ligamentoplasty reconstructing the volar and dorsal SLLs followed its patients for an average of 48.3 months and found improvements in pain score, wrist motion, and grip strength 82…”
