Abstract:Typically, an artefact study allows engineering students to dissect a product or device to understand its inner mechanical workings, manufacturing and materials. This paper discusses a broader artefact study which asks students to choose a man-made artefact from the 20 th century or earlier and discuss the implications of designing or constructing such an artefact in the 21 st century.
