Articulation of synthesis methods and approach for nanosized materials: a literature review

Abstract

The technology of nanomaterials has reached the most majority of metals and non-metals, developing a wide variety of synthesis methods for its formation, reaching sizes and morphologies that have an impact on its extraordinary properties. The scientific literature includes a wide variety of information regarding synthesis methods and techniques for inorganic and organic materials. But there is little information where the classification of these methods is incorporated in an articulated way according to the synthesis approach and the nature of the method associated with the dimensionality of the nanostructure formed. In this work, scientific publications referring to the synthesis of nanostructured materials from the bottom-up and top-down approaches and from the nature of the chemical-physical-biological synthesis method were reviewed. The purpose of this review was to find out if there is a link between the approach and the nature of the method with the dimensionality of the nanostructuring of various materials. Information sources from ScienceDirect, pubMed, Scielo and Google Scholar were used. For the inclusion and exclusion criteria, original articles published between 2016 and 2021 in the specific area of nanotechnology applied to materials science were considered.From the analyzed literature it is verified that there is no structural morphology and its corresponding dimensionality that are exclusive to the synthesis method or approach.
