Artificial inverted compound eye structured polymer films with light-harvesting and self-cleaning functions for encapsulated III–V solar cell applications

Abstract: Inverted compound eye structured polydimethylsiloxane (i.e., ICESs PDMS) antireflection layer enhances the solar power generation of encapsulated III–V solar cells.

“…In a previous work 28 , we produced surface nanocomposites of PMMA/TiO 2 by loading the polymer surface with TiO 2 nanoparticles prior to the thermal NIL step of the moth-eye topography. A different approach to improve the mechanical resistance, has been to modify the geometry by making pore-like inverse moth-eye nanostructures 29 , 30 . The improvement of mechanical resistance and the resulting optical quality, compared to moth-eye nanostructures, has been determined numerically and experimentally, and it was demonstrated that inverted nanocones were able to sustain a higher mechanical stress while retaining a good optical antireflective performance 31 , 32 .…”

“…The introduction of the pre-patterned microcone array is particularly advantageous in overcoming the limit given by the incident angle. [51,52,53] As shown in Figure 3b,c, fluctuation of broadband (400-800 nm) reflectance of the Au/h-Nanoturf on μ-cone array with respect to the incident angle of solar spectrum is notably diminished in the case with microcone array (Figure 3c) when compared to flat Au/nanoturf (Figure 3b). In addition, the Au/h-Nanoturf on μ-cone array exhibited further decreased reflectance over the range of the broadband spectrum.…”

“…The ommatidia located on the same circumference of a circle are assumed to be located on the same level. They have the same focal length and view angle [ 22 ]. The imaging performance is improved as the imaging spherical aberration reduced to almost 1% of the initial value.…”
