As siglas da igreja de Boelhe

Abstract: In this essay we seek to analyse the masons' marks from the church of S. Gens de Boelhe and answer some questions related to the construction of the monument and its builders. The systematic analysis of a building´s mason marks can provide informations related with the number of masons that worked in a particular building and the stages and rhythms of its construction. A systematic gliptographic survey may also allow to foresee regional or national movement of groups of masons.

“…Glyptographic analysis (Guedes 2019) has consisted in identifying all the mason's marks on the three visible façades of the nave (SE, NW and SW). Once the marks have been identified, colours have been assigned to each of them to map all the ashlars of the three façades, thus marking each ashlar with a colour assigned to its mason's mark.…”

“…The δ 18 O Q isotope (V-SMOW) for quartz crystals collected from argillic andesite blocks at −110 m yielded a value at c. þ15.12 ‰ (1τ), which represents a mean value of five samples. The δ 18 O F isotopic fractionation calculated for the quartz-H 2 O pair (Clayton et al 1972) is 7.73 ‰ (1τ) for the quartz precipitation at a temperature of 270-300 °C estimated from the fluid inclusion data (Guedes et al 2000). Calculating Δ = δ 18 O Q − δ 18 O F, a value of 7.39 ‰ (1τ) was obtained.…”

“…3f). The hydraulic fracturing of the andesite dyke occurred owing to a high-pressure gas explosion event (~100 MPa, after Guedes et al 2000), generating 'crackle' blocks. Cement and hydrothermal quartz crystals from the open-filling space of the breccia were collected from this location for mineralogy and geochemistry (see Table 1).…”
