As unidades de conservação do estado de São Paulo: planos de manejo e representatividade

Abstract

Among the various types of protected areas in Brazil are conservation units, governed by the enactment of Law 9,985/2000, which established the National System of Nature Conservation Units (SNUC). The representativeness of samples from all ecosystems and the mandatory nature of a guiding document for the management of all these areas are provided for in the SNUC. This article aims to outline a contemporary overview of the status of management plans for strict protection conservation units (UCPI) in the state of São Paulo (ESP) and quantifies the main phytophysiognomies that make up these areas. ESP counts 963,855.65 ha in UCPI, or 3,9% of that territory. State parks account for 84% of this coverage. Ecological Stations have the highest percentage of UCPI with Management Plans (74%). From the total protected area in UCPI, the Atlantic Forest (MA) represents 98% and the Cerrado (Ce) 2%. The UCPI protect 20.6% of the remaining MA and 3.2% of the State Ce. It is urgent to conserve more areas of Ce with the creation of new UCPI, otherwise there would be no other area to be protected.
