Aspects of open-closed duality in a background B-field, II

Abstract: It was shown in [hep-th/0503009], in the context of bosonic theory that the IR singular terms that arise as a result of integrating out high momentum modes in nonplanar diagrams of noncommutative gauge theory can be recovered from low lying tree-level closed string exchanges. This follows as a natural consequence of world-sheet openclosed string duality. Here using the same setup we study the phenomenon for noncommutative N = 2 gauge theory realised on a D 3 fractional brane localised at the fixed point of C 2… Show more

“…3.2 agrees with the way in which these operators are argued to couple to gravitational degrees of freedom in string theory [90][91][92][93]. The process described here is similar to the mechanism of UV/IR mixing that occurs on a D-brane in a background B-field, which is related to tachyonic instabilities arising from the exchange of closed string modes in the bulk [94,95]. It is complementary to the derivation of the newtonian force law [96] and supergravity graviton propagators [97] from four-dimensional maximally supersymmetric noncommutative Yang-Mills theory.…”

“…quadratic and cubic terms in the matrix model) should also be admissible. 27 it seems likely that the interpretation of UV/IR mixing in terms of closed string modes put forward in [75,76] is another way of looking at the same thing, since these closed-string modes are related to the embedding metric g µν of the brane.…”

“…Various aspects of this duality have since been studied [36,37,38,39,40,41,42,43]. In the next part of this analysis we will show that the UV/IR mixing phenomenon of N = 2 gauge theory can be naturally interpreted as a consequence of open-closed string duality in the presence of background B-field [33,34].…”
