Aspekte der neuroleptischen Depottherapie unter besonderer Berücksichtigung klinischer Erfahrungen mit dem peroralen Depotpräparat Penfluridol (R 16 341 — Janssen)

Abstract

Part A discusses in general clinico-pharmacological, pharmacopsychiatric, psychological and social aspects of treatment with long-acting neuroleptics. Previous experiences have confirmed the importance of repository preparations for secondary prevention and their economic value. Part B is a report on an open clinical study of the long-acting agent Penfluridol (R 16 341 - Janssen), perorally administered to 50 patients suffering from schizophrenia. The predominantly antipsychotic substance remains effective for approx. 1 week after application of a single dose ranging from 20 to 120 mg. Apart from extrapyramidal side effects, Penfluridol is well tolerated, no serious incidents were observed.
