“…Endoscopic modalities in the treatment of obesity can be categorized into the following: space-occupying devices (intragastric balloon [IGB], transpyloric shuttle), gastric restrictive methods (transoral gastroplasty, transoral endoscopic restrictive implant system), malabsorptive endoscopic procedures (duodenal-jejunal bypass liner, satiSphere), regulating gastric emptying (intragastric botulinum toxin injections, gastric electrical stimulation), and other therapies (aspiration therapy) [14][15][16]. Of these methods, the most commonly employed is IGB placement.…”

“…With the recent FDA approval of 3 IGBs (Orbera: Apollo Endosurgery, Austin, TX; ReShape Duo: ReShape Medical, San Clemente, CA; Obalon Balloon System: Obalon Therapeutics, Carlsbad, CA; see Table 1 and Figure 2) and an AT system (AspireAssist: Aspire Bariatrics, Kings of Prussia, PA), endoscopic bariatric procedures have reemerged as a viable option for the treatment of obesity. Two of the new IGBs are endoscopically placed, left for 6 months, and then retrieved 13 , 24 . In addition, there is a new IGB that is swallowed and then endoscopically removed after 3–6 months.…”

“…The follow‐up study was a prospective observational study of 25 obese patients (BMI, 35–49 kg/m 2 ) over a period of 12–24 months in a single center in Sweden 13 . Subjects were instructed to aspirate 3 times a day, 20 minutes after each major meal, for the entire study period (12–24 months) 13 . A total of 20 subjects (80%) completed the protocol to 12 months and 15 (60%) to 24 months.…”

“…The prolonged eating rate and chewing seen in RYGB can contribute to its positive impact on satiety [77]. It's noteworthy that improved mastication was thought to contribute to efficacy of other obesity treatments such as aspiration therapy [77,78].…”
