Abstract:Smoking promotes arthrosclerosis which means hardening of blood vessels and blocking of arterioles. When this affects the blood vessels that supply the heart, it can lead to destruction of heart muscle. To try and find out why the aspirin had exerted such a beneficial effect, some of the major risk factors which contribute to the risk of heart attacks and strokes were examined in the subjects who took part in the trial, and they all were smokers.
