Assembly of Dithiocarbamate-Anchored Monolayers on Gold Surfaces in Aqueous Solutions

Abstract: Dithiocarbamates (DTCs) can be formed by the in situ condensation of polar alkylamines with CS 2 , and assembled into dithiocarbamate-anchored monolayers (DAMs) on Au substrates in aqueous solutions. Primary and secondary amines can both be used to prepare DTCs, but have significant differences in their reactivities and product stabilities. Ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy provides a convenient method for monitoring in situ DTC formation as well as the formation of potential byproducts. The kinetics of DAM … Show more

“…GSH is a tripeptide containing cysteine, which can bind on the surface of AuNPs or AgNPs via its thiol side chains. [29][30][31] In our experiments, GSH was selected as an additive in the mixture of relative colloids for the studies of recognition mechanism. Herein, three different analytical processes were designed for the investigation.…”

“…In order to mimic a gold surface subjected to rigorous cleaning treatments with piranha solution, we have treated a gold film in O 2 plasma [1]. Oxygen plasma removed the carbon contamination and produced a metastable oxide layer, which is sufficiently long-lived under vacuum conditions to permit its characterization by XPS (see Fig.…”

“…An approach using the in situ formation of dithiocarbamates (DTC) to, in only one-step, immobilize compounds with amine groups to gold surfaces has been developed as an efficient alternative [11][12][13]. Briefly, carbon disulfide spontaneously reacts with amine groups to form DTC through the immersion of gold substrates in a solution containing CS 2 and the compound to immobilize, at room temperature [11,14,15], without the need of adding several modification and activation steps. DTC have a resonant bidentate structure along N-C-S 2 and establish strong linkages to gold substrates [16].…”
