Assessing colour values of polyester fabrics produced from fibres having different cross‐sectional shapes after abrasion

Abstract: This study assesses the colour, colour difference and colour strength values obtained for eight disperse‐dyed polyester fabric samples produced from full and hollow round and trilobal fibres after four sets of abrasion cycle. Each fabric was produced from the same yarns in warp and weft directions. The L*, C*ΔE*ab and K/S values of the undyed fabrics and dyed fabrics before and after increasing cycles of abrasion are presented and discussed. Fabrics produced from full and hollow fibres showed great differences… Show more

“…Thus both chemical affinity and segmental mobility are important for acid dye pick-up. Several parameters affect the properties of melt spun yarns (like Nylon6), including the spinneret's cross-section and additives [13,14]. Cross sectional shape is one of the most important morphological features of fibers, which largely determines the mechanical, thermal and optical http://www.jeffjournal.org Volume 10, Issue 1 -2015 properties.…”

“…Bueno et al [1] presented the influence of the fiber cross-sectional shape on surface characteristics of the knitted fabrics produced from polyester staple fibers. Becerir et al [14] researched the abrasion resistance of polyester fabrics produced from fibers having different cross-sectional shapes.…”

“…Fabrics were subjected to further processes: dry cleaning with C 2 Cl 4 , thermo-fix process at 140 • C and calender process to optimize dimensional stability. As some authors tell (Becerir et al, 2007), hollow fibers can compromise wear resistance of the final product. For this reason, double washing during the production process was done, to better eliminate impurities and weaving oils.…”
