Assessing Health Impact of Air Pollutants in Five Iraqi Cities Using AirQ+ Model

Abstract: Concentration of air pollutants CO, NO2, SO2, O3, PM10, PM2.5 in four Iraqi cities (Al-Najaf, Al-Muthanna, Maysan, Kirkuk) and PM2.5 in Baghdad city were monitored and analysed for the period September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2020. The results showed that the daily mean concentration of CO, NO2 for the four cities are well below the WHO air quality standard. In general, PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations are the factors that govern the air quality index in Iraqi cities under consideration. It is clear that, for all t… Show more

“…On the other hand, Ali et.al, 2020 [16] proposed a method using a linear regression algorithm to evaluate the daily and monthly behaviour of CO emissions in Baghdad city. With the studies that investigated the relationship between weather data and air pollution, Mahdi et al, 2020 [17] presented a method based on weather and CO data analysed by using presented a method based on linear regression analysis in Duhok city. They found a high correlation between temperature and CO concentrations.…”

“…In Poland, for example, it has been used to assess the effects of PM2.5 and PM10 dust in Wrocław [42] and 12 other agglomerations between 2008 and 2018 [43]. The software is also widely used for estimations in other countries, for example, Pakistan [44], Bosnia and Herzegovina [45], Iraq [46], Iran [47], and Spain [48].…”

“…Particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) and gasses (such as ozone, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and oxides of nitrogen) are the principal contributors to air pollution. Since it shows how contaminated air affects public safety, particle matter measurement can be considered a valuable metric for measuring air quality (AQ) [8]. When exposed to PM2.5 levels of ten µg/m 3 , the incidence of cardiovascular diseases, cancer of the lungs, and death can each increase by four to eight % [9].…”
