Background The popularity of implant dentistry is increasing dramatically, but the success of implant treatment depends on a patient’s knowledge and expectations. Methods This study aimed to assess dental implant knowledge among refugees as a treatment option (n = 565), using face-to-face interviews. The frequency distribution of the responses in general and according to age, gender and education was calculated. Results 81.8% of the interviewees had missing teeth, however, only 26.2% replaced them. 16.6% of participants had never/hardly heard about implants. Females who never heard of implants were more than males (P < 0.001). 51.3% of participants described dental implants as a screw, and only 35.4% knew implants were placed in jawbones. 6.2% of respondents reported that implants required more care than a natural teeth, with 47.6% believing that diseases affect implant success. Friends were the main source of information (61.4%). Highly educated participants showed higher knowledge about implants. Conclusions The surveyed sample revealed limited knowledge about dental implants with high cost being a major obstacle, warranting more strategies to increase awareness and to make implants more affordable for this population.

Background: Dental implants (DI) are gaining popularity among the general population, and special consideration has been given to the geriatric population in the replacement of missing teeth subject to their medical stability. The study aimed to assess the awareness, knowledge, and acceptance regarding DI among the geriatric population of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Methodology: A cross-sectional survey was carried out through face-to-face interviews using a pretested and standardized questionnaire by calibrated interviewers. Participants of age >58 years who have not undergone any implant or bone graft procedures attending different prosthodontic clinics in Jeddah were recruited according to availability after obtaining consent. Responses received were converted into digital format and subjected to statistical analysis. Results: The knowledge related to DI was not satisfactory, and only 4.5% showed good knowledge. The willingness to replace the current prosthesis with DI was found in 49.6%, and it was also observed that 40% of the participants were using some tooth-supported fixed dental prosthesis. Only 41.3% and 31% were aware of bone graft and sinus lift procedures related to DI. Conclusion: Even though most participants were aware of DI, the knowledge related to it was little satisfactory. Older people should be appropriately explained about the best treatment choice for teeth replacement by connecting to their current systemic health condition with its benefits and long-term effects. Unexpectedly, the awareness related to bone graft and sinus lift procedures related to DI was found to be relatively acceptable as well as the willingness to accept bone graft if needed for DI placement was observed.

Endo-osseous implants are considered an ideal dental fixture. It is becoming the preferred choice of the edentulous patient to rehabilitate toothlessness because of their aesthetic and functional outcome. Despite the successful surgery and implant placement, complications occur, which may be related to several factors, like operative assessment, treatment planning, patient-related factors, surgical procedures, and surgeons' experience. Comprehensive radiological assessment plays a vital role in clinical analysis for better treatment planning, avoiding complications, and increasing the Implant's success rate. However, despite the variety of dental imaging, choosing the right imaging technology has become difficult for clinical experts. The investigative survey conducted in this paper aims to determine the correlation between different imaging modalities, their essential role in implant therapy. This review extensively discussed which types of computational operations applied to image modalities in the existing literature address various noises and other relevant issues. These study findings reveal significant issues with various dental imaging modalities and provide an understanding to bridge all existing research gaps towards building cost-effective classification and predictive models for accurate dental treatment planning and higher implant success rates.
