Assessing Performance on Digital Clock Drawing Test in Aged Patients With Cerebral Small Vessel Disease

Abstract: The term small vessel disease (SVD) encompasses all the pathological processes that affect the small vessels of the brain, including small arteries and arterioles but also capillaries and small veins, which can result in multi-domain cognitive deficits. The digital clock drawing test (dCDT) has been proved to be a more useful assessment tool for cognitive disorders compared to traditional clock drawing test DT (tCDT) in many neuropsychological diseases. This study aimed to check whether this tool worked well i… Show more

“…During the last DS, or night-shift work, similar to the procedure of Chang et al (2011) , all participants of each group completed a series of cognitive function tests, respectively. Considering that the main duties of nurses working night shifts at the study hospital include checking medical orders and prescriptions ( Chang et al, 2011 ) correctly and quickly, the cognitive function assessments in the current study consisted of auditory verbal learning test-HuaShan version (AVLT-H), choice reaction test (CRT), digit symbol substitution test (DSST) and trail making test (TMT)-B ( Zhào et al, 2019 ).…”

“…All participants completed a series of neuropsychological assessments such as category verbal fluency test (VFT) (which reflects executive function) ( 28 ), clock drawing test (CDT) (which reflects visuospatial function) ( 29 ), and trail-making test–part B (which reflects cognitive flexibility) ( 30 ).…”

“…The dCDT clock drawings were scored by two members of the research team according to MoCA clock scoring criteria (0 = worst, 3 = best) 33 . The MoCA clock scoring criteria were chosen over more detailed criteria, 34,35 because of their ease of application and consistency of administration 21 . Any discrepancies in scoring were discussed and resolved by consensus with a neuropsychology registrar who is a member of the research team (KA).…”
