Assessing the change of groundwater quality compared with land-use change and precipitation rate (Zrebar Lake's Basin)

Abstract: Population, salinity, and increasing water consumption have caused high pressure on groundwater resources in Iran. The study reported here investigates the change of groundwater quality in Zrebar lake basin and the relationship between it with land-use change and precipitation rate from 1992 to 2018. To achieve the intended goal, chemical parameters of water from wells around the lake, bicarbonate (HCO3−), sulfate (SO4), sodium absorption ratio (SAR), and electrical conductivity (EC) were analyzed. Then, four … Show more

“…As already stated, water yield is affected by land use, precipitation, evapotranspiration, and soil characteristics (Sadeghi et al 2021;Soomro et al 2021). Sub-basins 5, 11, and 1 have the highest water yield volume, while sub-basins 2, 12, and 8 have the lowest water yield.…”

“…With a length of 4.5 km and a width of approximately 2 km, the lake spans an area of approximately 850 to 900 ha. Zaribar Lake attained international acclaim as the 25th Iranian wetland during the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in 2019, held in Ramsar, Iran (Sadeghi et al 2021). Zaribar Waterfront Park, established in 2000, covers an expansive area of over 12 ha (Marivan Green Spaces Statistics 2023).…”

“…In this research, the Algerian potability requirements were employed to calculate the GWQI (Table 2). The GWQI computation is broken down into three phases, as shown in equation 1 (Touahri et al, 2022;Sadeghi et al, 2021). The first step is to give each of the eleven characteristics a weight (wp) depending on their value in terms of total drinking water quality.…”
