Assessing utility values in rheumatoid arthritis: A comparison between time trade‐off and the EuroQol

Abstract: At baseline, the EQ-5D scores were highly correlated with the HAQ (r ‫؍‬ ؊0.74) and moderately correlated with the DAS28 (r ‫؍‬ ؊0.47), whereas the TTO correlated poorly with both the HAQ and DAS28. Correlation between the mean change in the EQ-5D and in the HAQ was moderate (r ‫؍‬ ؊0.55). Conclusion. TTO and EQ-5D do not yield the same utility values. The results suggest that the EQ-5D is more representative of RA status than the TTO, a valuable conclusion when addressing economic evaluations in RA.

“…Tijhuis et al [20] Ariza-Ariza et al [29] Whitney et al [34] Scott et al [35] Marra et al [36] TTO score Although the strength of correlation of instruments was also observed within each subgroup in our study, no connection between the r values and the use of biological treatment could be identified. Correlation values among different impairment (DAS-28), QOL (EQ-5D VAS, RAQoL) and utility (EQ-5D index, TTO) measures were also compared with the previous studies.…”

“…We compared our QoL and utility results with previous RAQoL studies in the literature (Table 4). Ariza-Ariza et al [29] found likewise a higher mean TTO score (0.81) than EQ-5D index (0.53), whilst mean EQ-5D VAS was 55.95. Tijhuis et al [20] found a median TTO score of 0.77 which is similar to our results and a median RAQoL score of 16.…”

“…Peeters and colleagues [17] reported a correlation of À0.31 between changes in the standard gamble and DAS in a small trial, while Ariza-Ariza and colleagues [43] reported an association of similar magnitude between changes in the TTO and DAS28. We found slightly smaller correlations, which may have been because most subjects improved.…”

“…Wolfe et al report a mean EQ-5D utility weight of 0.57 in 1372 RA patients [26], whereas Ariza-Ariza et al [27] report a value of 0.53 in 300 RA patients. In our study, the mean EQ-5D utility weight improved from 0.38 before surgery to 0.58 at the final follow-up, which is similar to that report in other studies.…”
