Assessment of Böhme Abrasion Value of Natural Stones through Artificial Neural Networks (ANN)

Abstract: This present study explored the Böhme abrasion value (BAV) of natural stones through artificial neural networks (ANNs). For this purpose, a detailed literature survey was conducted to collect quantitative data on the BAV of different natural stones from Turkey. As a result of the ANN analyses, several predictive models (M1–M13) were established by using the rock properties, such as the dry density (ρd), water absorption by weight (wa), Shore hardness value (SHV), pulse wave velocity (Vp), and uniaxial compress… Show more

“…The influences of waste PP fibres and palm oil fuel ash (POFA) on the abrasion resistance (using a Böhme surface abrasion machine) of the concrete were investigated. Strzałkowski and Köken [46] developed an alternative to the standard Böhme test method using neural networks to assess rock abrasiveness based on physical and mechanical properties such as dry density (ρ d ), water absorption by weight (w a ), Shore hardness value (SHV), pulse wave velocity (V p ) and uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of rocks.…”

“…This analysis will help to understand which properties are more indicated to abrasion resistance, which is the aim of this paper. The detailed analysis is presented in the following charts, [6], [8]. The correlations of testing parameters presented in the charts will be analysed with equations in Table 2.…”

“…These methods are now widely used in rock mechanics because of how easily and adaptably they can anticipate the required values depending on a variety of inputs. These techniques are well suited for usage when conventional statistical techniques are less accurate in making predictions [38][39][40][41][42]. In rock mechanics, these methods are getting more attention now because they are flexible and make it easy to predict required values based on the input variables.…”
