Assessment of Core Areas of SHS Implementation in San Pablo Colleges: Basis for Quality Assurance

Abstract

The introduction of the senior high school (SHS) initiative in the Philippines has been a significant educational change aimed at preparing students for both higher education and the job market. This research aimed to evaluate the execution of the SHS program by considering the viewpoints of teachers and strand coordinators in relation to curriculum, evaluation, and teaching methods; effective leadership in teaching; faculty and administration; and overall governance. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, utilizing surveys as the primary tool. Findings indicated that despite encountering obstacles in the execution of the program, particularly regarding available resources and teacher training, the general perception among teachers and strand coordinators was that the implementation was successful in achieving the objectives of the SHS program. Recommendations were put forward to enhance the implementation process further, with a specific focus on ensuring adequate resources and professional development opportunities for teachers, as the institution strives for maintaining quality standards.
