Assessment of Daily Cost of Reactive Power Procurement by Smart Inverters

Abstract: The reactive power control mechanisms at the smart inverters will affect the voltage profile, active power losses and the cost of reactive power procurement in a different way. Therefore, this paper presents an assessment of the cost–benefit relationship obtained by enabling nine different reactive power control mechanisms at the smart inverters. The first eight reactive power control mechanisms are available in the literature and include the IEEE 1547−2018 standard requirements. The ninth control mechanism is… Show more

“…To develop the cyber-physical co-simulation testbed for a smart distribution network, information about the distribution network and the program to model them is an important aspect [22]. The main idea of developing a cyber-physical cosimulation testbed is to mimic the real distribution system in a cybernetic layer.…”

“…The disadvantage of this approach is that the central controller will have to process multiple input and output data streams and solve for a large number of variables. This approach can be applied for both real-time control [12] and optimal power flow based operation [13][14][15]. Efforts to optimize the local reactive power control over a lengthy time horizon have also been presented in the past [16].…”
