Objectives To explore the correlations among social isolation and symptoms of anxiety and depression among patients with breast cancer in China and to further verify the mediating role of social support in social isolation and symptoms of depression or anxiety. Design A cross‐sectional survey. Settings The cluster sampling method was conducted for 456 female inpatients diagnosed with breast cancer at the Tumor Hospital Affiliated of Harbin Medical University from April 2019–September 2019. Methods Pearson correlation analysis was used for identifying correlations among all the variables. Mediation effect analysis was used to examine the role of social support in social isolation and symptoms of depression or anxiety. Results The results showed a prevalence of 73.26% and 70.44% for anxiety and depression symptoms in patients with breast cancer, respectively. Anxiety was significantly negatively correlated with social support (r = −.334, p < .01) and significantly positively correlated with social isolation (r = .369, p < .01). Similarly, depression was significantly negatively correlated with social support (r = −.289, p < .01) and significantly positively correlated with social isolation (r = .466, p < .01). Social support played a mediating role in social isolation and f symptoms of anxiety or depression among these patients. Conclusions Social isolation was positively correlated with symptoms of anxiety and depression in patients with breast cancer, respectively. Social support for patients with breast cancer has a mediating effect on the patients’ social isolation and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Therefore, the support of family, friends, hospitals, and organizations plays a positive role in reducing social isolation as well as symptoms of depression and anxiety in these patients.

Objective To analyze the alterations in ophthalmic parameters in patients with recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA), and find the possible eye surface recognition site of threatened abortion (TA) patients. Methods Fifty-two patients with RSA (104 eyes) were recruited. Analyzers were used to examine the parameters of MG and tear film. The distribution of the MG grades of the patients and the correlation between the MG and tear film were analyzed; tear film rupture was used as the grading standard for the MG grade. Results The grade for MG loss in the patients increased with the grade for tear film rupture. MG length (L) and MG area ratio (GA), MG diameter (D) and MG tortuosity index (TI), MG diameter deformation index (DI) and TI were positively correlated. L and TI was negatively correlated. The tear film rupture area was mainly concentrated in the fifth ring and quadrants 3 and 4. The intersection area was mainly located in the fifth ring of sixth and seventh regions. Conclusion In RSA patients, tear film stability is greater when MG loss is farther from the pupil. The degree of gland distortion may be a new diagnostic index for gland variation, and the probability of gland variation in patients with larger meibomian gland area can decrease. The tear film rupture area was mainly concentrated in the fifth ring of the sixth and seventh regions of the pupil, which is expected to become the eye surface recognition site for women with TA.

Background Antenatal depression (AD) is common in pregnant women and is associated with adverse outcomes for the mother, fetus, infant and child. The influencing factors of AD among pregnant women have been studied; however, the mechanisms of these factors remain unclear. This study was designed to examine the direct and serial mediating roles of coping styles in the relationship between perceived social support and AD among pregnant women. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1486 pregnant women who registered to give birth at a tertiary hospital. A self-developed questionnaire was administered to obtain sociodemographic and obstetric data. The Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS), Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ), and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) were administered to measure the perceived social support, coping styles, and depressive symptoms of pregnant women, respectively. Multiple linear stepwise regression analysis was used, and then, the specific relationships among influencing factors were determined through structural equation modelling (SEM). Results The prevalence of AD was 24.02%. The average scores of intrafamily support, extrafamily support, positive coping styles, negative coping styles and EPDS reported by pregnant women were 24.16 ± 3.09, 44.52 ± 6.16, 27.34 ± 4.89, 9.79 ± 3.82, and 7.44 ± 3.56, respectively. Multiple regression analysis showed that pregnant women with a higher level of intrafamily support exhibited a positive coping style and a decreased risk of AD. Compared with extrafamily support, the direct effect (-0.16 vs. -0.10, P < 0.05) and indirect effect of intrafamily support through coping styles (-0.028 vs. -0.027, P < 0.05) on AD were stronger. Two indirect pathways explained 17.46% of the variance in the EPDS scores. Conclusion Higher social support decreased the likelihood of AD, not only directly but also through the mediating roles of coping styles. Social support should be strengthened, and positive coping styles should be advocated in every stage of pregnancy. Specifically, intrafamily support should be given more attention for pregnant Chinese women.
