Assessment of facial analysis measurements by golden proportion

Abstract: Facial proportion assessments in relation to the golden proportion showed that a statistically significant difference was observed between gender groups. Long facial morphology was observed more in males (51.4%); normal (41%) and short (39.3%) facial morphology were more common in females. The measurements and proportions for facial balance in our study population showed that the facial width and height proportions deviated from the golden proportion.

“…4 Similarly, the lower third of the youthful face is characterized by having a smooth transition from the cheek to the chin. 4 Furthermore, the jaw line is well defined and it has a curved shape from the region of the mandible angle to the chin, adopting the shape of a "hockey stick" when contemplated laterally. 4,5 The middle third of the face has a full form, rounded and with a smooth transition from the palpebral and malar region, adopting a convex shape and without any shadowing.…”

“…The ratio of Phi (Φ) has been commonly observed throughout nature and history. In the late fourth century, Greek mathematician Euclid defined this relationship as being a line in two parts (a, b), in which the ratio of the two parts (a/b) is equal to the ratio of the total length over the longer part (a+b/a) (Kaya, et al, 2018). The ancient Greeks believed that Phi, also referred to as the Golden Ratio, could be used to measure physical beauty and attractiveness.…”
