“…None of the isolates were resistant to ciprofloxacin, another first-line antimicrobial for salmonellosis (Guerrant et al, 2001), although many were resistant to nalidixic acid (8/14), which has been found to be an indicator of low level resistance to fluoroquinolones (I. Threlfall et al (2006) examined changes in the occurrence of antimicrobial resistance in other zoonotic pathogens, Salmonella enterica serotypes Enteritidis and Typhimurium obtained from human infections in England and Wales (2000, 2002 and 2004). These investigators showed that the incidence of strains of S. enteritidis with resistance to nalidixic acid, coupled with decreased susceptibility to ciprofloxacin, had more than doubled between 2000 and 2004.…”
