To assess the gastro-protective potential of the angiotensin (Ang-) (1-7) on the gastric secretion and ulceration induced by cold restraint stress (CRS) in adult male rats and the possible contribution of nitric oxide and prostaglandin E 2 . Rats were pylorically ligated and divided randomly into the following groups (8 rats each): control, cold-restraint stressed (CRS), stressed Ang-(1-7) treated, stressed L-NNA-Ang-(1-7) treated, stressed Indo-Ang-(1-7) treated groups. Our results revealed that Ang-(1-7) pre-treatment proved to be protective against development of ulcerative lesions in CRS model as evidenced by histological examination and the reduction of the ulcer index and this could be mediated through reduction of free and total acidity and pepsin concentration of gastric secretion with signifi cantly decreased lipid peroxidation and increased the gastric protective nitric oxide and prostaglandin E 2 levels. Furthermore, Ang-(1-7) pre-treatment has anti-apoptotic effect, evident by its down-regulation of the CRS induced over-expression of the gastric caspase 3. In addition, the gastro-protective effects of Ang-(1-7) were signifi cantly attenuated by co-administration with L-NNA or indomethacin. In conclusion, Ang-(1-7) can be considered a potential therapeutic agent to protect against the major clinical challenge of gastric injury resulting from stress. Nitric oxide and prostaglandin E 2 seem to contribute to the Ang-(1-7)'s gastro-protective effect (Tab. 2, Fig. 5, Ref. 35). Text in PDF www.elis.sk.

The large molecular weight of the macromolecules sets them apart from all other components. This may range from 10 000 to over a million. While the molecular weight of other plant metabolites is seldom beyond 1000. Chemically, macromolecules are made up of long chains and little “building pieces,” which are joined covalently in a variety of ways. Biological macromolecules are large, naturally occurring cellular building blocks that play a range of crucial roles in the development and existence of living organisms. Biomacromolecules are essential in the biomedical field and other related professions. They feature a variety of beneficial properties, including excellent biodegradability, suitable mechanical strength, enhanced bioavailability, etc. They also have significant biocompatibility. They display a variety of biological characteristics, such as antimalignant, antidiabetic, antibacterial, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory. The use of essential carbohydrates including alginate, chitosan, pectin, starches, carrageenan, fucoidan, etc. is common in commercial applications. Natural substance‐based pharmacotherapy is now considered to be a highly promising future alternative to conventional medicine. Along with proteins and polynucleotides, polysaccharide is a vital biomacromolecule that has a crucial function in the growth and expansion of living things. A crucial element of higher plants, cell membranes of animal, and cell walls of microbes is polysaccharide. It is intimately tied to physiological processes as well. The importance of polysaccharides as a significant class of bioactive natural compounds has received more attention recently. Numerous studies have shown that natural polysaccharides contain bioactivities, which have led to the use of polysaccharides in the treatment of illness. The many parts of the research findings on the bioactivities of polysaccharides in gastro‐protection are included in this paper.

Within the wide range of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds, the derivatives of 1,8-naphthyridine (NPTR) have gained a rising interest due to their reported versatile biological activities. The derivatives of NPTR scaffold are found to invite special interest from researchers nowadays on the significance of their manifestations of multiple attractive pharmacological activities which establish them as an effective and versatile tool in pharmaceutical chemistry and drug discovery. The diverse biological activities mainly include anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, anticancer, antihypertensive and analgesic activities. Novel NPTR scaffold has emerged its potency to treat neurological diseases like depression and Alzheimer's disease. Further these agents possess different inhibitory activities, such as anti-HIV, anti-osteoporotic, αvβ3 antagonism, antimalarial, platelet aggregation, anti-oxidant, anti-allergic, gastric antisecretory, anticonvulsant, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibition, protein kinase inhibition, ionotropic properties, β3 antagonism, phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE 4) inhibitions, adenosine receptor agonistic activity, adrenoceptors antagonism and DNA stabilizing activity, etc. In this review, we highlight the updates of different 1,8-naphthyridine derivatives and explain the key data available in the context of various biological activities of NPTR derivatives available from the literature. This may direct opportunity in researches in the synthesis of novel medicinal agents and the development of new heterocycles for modification of existing biological actions as well as evaluation of other possible pharmacological activities.
