Assessment of genetic diversity in Lepidium sativum L. using inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) marker

Abstract: Lepidium sativum L. is a fast-growing, edible and medicinal plant that belongs to the family Brassicaceae. Indian system of medicinal and health (ISHM) recognizes this plant as a source of several medicinal and nutraceutical factors. Ninety-four accessions collected from 19 states of India were assessed for genetic diversity using inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) marker. Ten ISSR primers amplified a total of 172 bands across the 94 accessions and out of these, 139 bands were found to be polymorphic and 33 a… Show more

“…A total of 25 amplitudes was obtained from 5 ISSR primers. 8 Some scientists have used 32 primers to assess ISSR genetic diversity among 18 genotypes studied, so that approximately 510 bands were garden cress (422 polymorphic bands and 88 single bands, respectively). They were analyzed using cluster analysis software and the Jacquard similarity coefficient, during which from 32% to 72% showed a genetic relationship between 18 genotypes.…”

“…They ranged from 60% to 91%. 7 The researchers examined 112 genotypes of the Lepidium sativum plant using 12 SSR markers identified from 1387 alleles (mean 116 alleles in SSR). 19 The genetic diversity of 85 Ethiopian populations was assessed by 10 ISSR markers, of which 81.13% (43) out of 53 loci were polymorphic.…”

“…Also, Ottai et al (2012) used the RAPD marker to assess the genetic variation of three cultivars of L. sativum (Haraz, Rajab and Khider) in Egypt. A combination of two molecular markers to assess the genetic variation and genetic stability is available, as Kumar et al (2012) The total relations of the different morphological and physiological parameters and molecular data were gathered in the dendrogram in Figure 3.…”

“…Several methods of molecular analyses have been used to assess the genetic diversity in natural populations of plants, including ISSR (Inter Simple Sequence Repeats) markers (Almeida et al, 2009). In spite of their dominant behavior, ISSR markers are advantageous to assess the genetic diversity in wild plants because they disregard previous information about genomes, are easily obtained, indicate variation within unique regions of the genome at several loci at the same time and provide reproducible results with high levels of polymorphism (Reddy et al, 2002;Kumar & Yadav, 2018).…”
