Assessment of genetic diversity in IL-6 and RANTES promoters and their level in Saudi coronary artery disease patients

Abstract: Based on our result, it is quite clear that inflammation has a role in the pathogenesis of CAD but does not lead to significant changes at the genetic level in our population. As far as our knowledge goes, this is the first report that shows the genetic diversity in IL-6 and RANTES promoters and their respective levels in Saudi CAD patients.

“…Taken together all above mentioned facts, increased IL-10 levels in CVD patients could be a compensatory response against the elevation of pro-inflammatory mediators and vascular injury. We also observed a significant rise in these mediators in our previous studies (15,34).…”

“…In our earlier studies, we reported non‐significant associations of SNPs in promoter region of IL‐6, IL‐18, and IL‐1β genes with Saudi CVD patients . However, the present study reports a significant association between polymorphism in IL‐10 promoters at −1082 and −819 sites with Saudi CVD patients.…”

“…Numerous studies have been carried out to evaluate the association of gene polymorphisms to the onset of type 2 diabetes, while only a few were done to reveal their relation with secondary complications [Tsiavou et al, ; Arababadi et al, ]. Jabir et al has studied SNP at ‐174 G/C promoter site in coronary artery disease patients and has reported increased IL‐6 level [Jabir et al, ]. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study which was designed to evaluate the polymorphism in the ‐590 region of IL‐4 gene and ‐176 region of IL‐6 gene in type 2 diabetic patients with CKD (stage 2–4) in North Indian populations.…”
