Assessment of Inter-Sectoral Virtual Water Reallocation and Linkages in the Northern Tianshan Mountains, China

Abstract: Quantitative analysis of the reallocation and linkages of virtual water in the economic sector was important for the integrated water resources management in inland arid regions. Taking the northern Tianshan Mountains (NTM) as an example, we applied the environmental input-output model to design the accounting framework for the reallocation of blue and green virtual water (VW) in the economic sector and analyzed the correlation effect of VW reallocation among various sectors by backward and forward linkages in… Show more

“…The government should focus on China's "One Belt One Road" initiative so as to optimize and develop the product structure of processing and service industries. Compared with the agriculture sector, the direct blue-green physical water consumption and virtual water export volume per unit output in secondary and tertiary industries were relatively low [45].…”

“…Therefore, in the implementation of future development policies, the government should focus on China's "One Belt, One Road" initiative to optimize and develop the product structure of the processing and service industries, and through adjustments to the industrial structure, it can effectively reduce the ineffective consumption of water resources and ensure the high-quality development of the socio-economics of the whole region, so as to achieve a win-win situation [47]. From a macro perspective, governors should pay more attention to improving agricultural production while maintaining a benign ecological environment, developing better resource carrying capacity assessment tools to accurately assess the appropriate carrying capacity of each region, and improving the integrated management of water and land resources [48].…”

“…With the continuous progress of modern science and technology, new, intelligent and unmanned port loading and unloading operation with real-time monitoring and self-adjustment has become a reality, and it has become possible to use high-end and new technology to ensure the operational safety of ships during mooring, instead of the traditional cable mode that has been used for many years. The Moor Master system developed by Cavotec SA of Switzerland, the AutoMoor system developed by Trelleborg of Sweden and the ShoreTension @ of the Netherlands are all automated mooring solutions that have been put into use [12,13]. Good results have been achieved in mooring operations such as those in barge docks and locks [14,15].…”
