Assessment of land use changes and its impact on Agricultural soils in North Nile Delta region of Egypt using GIS and remote sensing

Abstract: E GYPT Nile Delta has very limited area of fertile soils which threatening by urban sprawl. Assessment of theurban areastretch effect on agricultural lands of the Egyptian Northern Nile Delta has been detected by using Landsat TM,Landsat ETM + and Landsat OLIsatellite images (1984, 2002, and 2016 respectively).Monitoring of urban sprawl was applied by visual interpretation viasupervised classification, on-screen digitizing and post classification change detection technique. The urban thematic layerand the land … Show more

Utilizing of land evaluation mapping to give the information for the sustainable agricultural production, managing land recourses, land capability and land suitability of various kinds of land for specific land uses (FAO, 2008;Tadesse andNegese, 2020 andDebesa etal., 2020).…”

“…As a result, due to the vast library of regularly occurring, high-quality images with short intervals, remote sensing is currently a prominent tool for change detection research (Farrag & Mostafa, 2006). It is crucial for improved management to have timely and reliable information on LULC change detection of the earth's surface (Abowaly et al, 2018;Elzahaby et al, 2015). Agriculture constitutes an essential component of the societal structure and economy of Egypt, serving as the foundation for many sustainable development initiatives within the country.…”

“…Qualitative models derived from modification of soil landscape models are efficient means of interpolation point data based on conceptual relationship between observation of the soil property or condition being mapped and easily observable landscape features (Peterson et al 1996). Geographic Information System (GIS) used to query, link and retrieveboth of spatial attribute data (Abowaly et al 2018). This is in integration with the physical features can create a new data and predictive models that could be this is important for planners and decision makers (Ahmed et al, 1998).…”
