Assessment of lower extremities ischemic disease by thallium 201 perfusion scintigraphy in patients with diabetic angiopathy

Abstract: Background/Aim. Tibial perfusion in diabetic microangiopathy is considered to be a diagnostic problem. A special place in quantifying muscle microcirculatory perfusion belongs to thallium 201 muscle perfusion scintigraphy (201Tl PS). Thallium, showing the characteristics of potassium (K+), enters a cell by means of active cell transportation and follows erythrocyte up to the tissue. The aim of this study was to determine if 201Tl PS of lower extremities (LE) is a good method for estimating muscle microcirculat… Show more

“…Lower extremity ischemic disease assessed by thallium-201 was also used by Cizmic et al 12 in evaluation of diabetic angiopathy. Their results of lower extremities perfusion scintigraphy showed reliable indices of muscle microcirculatory perfusion, with statistically significant correlation between the Doppler hemodynamic indices and thallium-201 perfusion scintigraphy.…”

“…The data were analyzed qualitatively-visually for symmetry in vascularization (arterial, capillary and vein phase) and scored as (0) symmetric distribution, ( 1 ) mild asymmetry, ( 2 ) moderate asymmetry and ( 3 ) significant asymmetry, as well as analysis of distribution of the tracer in the regions of interest (ROI); left calf/right calf (LC/RC) ( 8 ).…”
