Assessment of new potato cultivars in Europe: a survey

Abstract: SummaryIn 1994, a postal questionnaire was sent to 41 institutes in 27 countries to obtain information on the national potato cultivar testing programmes in Europe. Responses were received from 19 countries.Foliage, tuber and yield characteristics were assessed in all countries but the number of sites and replicates varied considerably between the countries. Cooking and taste qualities were measured in most countries using relatively simple methods but processing characteristics were tested less commonly. Susc… Show more

“…Chemical control has been largely studied (Grafius, 1995(Grafius, , 1997Wustman and Carnegie, 2000;Zabel et al, 2002;Stankovik et al, 2004;Alyokhin et al, 2008;Grafius and Douches, 2008;Alyokhin, 2009;Sladam et al, 2012;Szendrei et al, 2012;Piiroinen et al, 2014;Clements et al, 2016). “…It is expected that the CPB will develop resistance to all new insecticides deployed. Besides that, large scale application of chemical pesticides can lead to serious health and environmental problems (Wustman and Carnegie 2000;Alyokhin 2009). As a result, there is an increasing public demand for reduction of pesticide use and withdrawal of certain chemical compounds because of their harmful effects on growers, consumers, and the environment (Dik et al 2000).…”
